- Erwin Sean Caravana was born on Valentine’s day in the state of New Jersey. In pre-school, he was exposed to music. He took piano lessons which continued through part of grade school.Erwin had to give up piano lessons when he got involved with basketball. During his secondary schooling, he got interested in the performances of DJ Qbert, MixMaster Mike, DJ A-Trak, Jam Master Jay, Grandmaster Flash, Cut Master Swift, Rocksteady DJs, Roc Raida, DJ Craze, DJ Rectangle, DJ Enough and ie.MERGE. These turntablist are his favorites and they had a big influence in his life. Erwin saved up anytime he made money and spent it wisely. With the help of his parents and brother, he was able to acquire his DJ equipment and turntable. While he was providing DJ services on his spare time, he practiced diligently with his turntables hoping that one day he will be good enough to battle. During his first year in high school, he invited a group of artists to test and do some recordings. When he played the beats, these artists started battling each other. When Erwin saw the outcome, it motivated him to learn more about audio engineering and producing. He upgraded some of his equipments and started inviting underground artists to record and produce their music tracks. After this experience, he decided to start his own record label and called it Flipstyle Productions. One day, he heard Scruff spitting lyrics to someone. It caught his attention and saw the potential in this person. He invited Scruff to record his music and this was the beginning of their friendship and partnership. Erwin was impressed with Scruff’s lyrics and flow . So he recorded Scruff’s first 2 music tracks. Scruff was his first official signed artist. Slowly, Flipstyle Productions found more talented members who are good friends of Erwin and are willing to work as a team. They are David ( D-Gunz ) , Nick ( Spinz ), Fulbert ( Cue ), and Toya D. — Erwin keeps on expanding his knowledge and expertise
